The Stations of the Cross, also known as the Way of the Cross, originated from the pilgrimages in Jerusalem where pilgrims would retrace the steps of Jesus that led to his death on the Cross. After the loss of the Holy Land, reproductions of the path Jesus used to go to his crucifixion became popular installations in churches. These became fixed into the 14 Stations as we know them today. It is customary to pray these on Fridays during Lent.
The Stations in St. Mary's Church are mosaics made from glass. They were created by C.S. Walsh Studios from Dublin, Ireland.
