Lenten Layettes

St. Mary’s Mothers of Young Children and Crisis Pregnancy Outreach parish ministries coordinate our church’s annual Lenten Layette Collection during the Season of Lent. They welcome help from all interested parties.
The purpose of this collection is to provide basic items for newborn babies who otherwise would leave the hospital without basic necessities such as blankets, clothing and diapers. The completed layettes are delivered to Sacred Heart Community Services and the Diocesan Layette Project for distribution.
Individual donations from parishioners are combined to make up a complete layette for a newborn baby.
Basic layette items include:
- a going-home-from-the-hospital outfit
- legless sleepwear (sleeping gowns / kimonos / sleeping bags / newborn sacques / blanket sleepers) or footed sleepers
onesies (short-sleeved, legless bodysuits) / all-in-ones / rompers / coveralls- undershirts / T-shirts
- receiving blankets
- swaddling blankets
- hooded towels
- baby washcloths
- socks / booties
- hats / beanies / sweaters
- burp cloths (cloth diapers are often recommended)
