Music at St. Mary's

Sing Out!
The last few weeks, I’ve been bragging on some of our musicians here at St. Mary’s. (And, I haven’t even gotten to Brigid, Amy, Carol and Dave yet! More about them in coming weeks…) I’m incredibly proud of all the musicians in our parish, and can’t help myself sometimes. However, I want to make sure that all our parish members understand why these great people are here… because they love their parish, their God, and ….to lead you in singing. .

In the Vatican II documents, the church was very clear that parishioners should be encouraged to sing as a group… to praise God together. That is the function of all the musicians that stand up front. Their message is not “look at me” but “come with me”. One of my favorite songs that we sing at the 9:00 a.m. mass is “Come and Journey With Me”. Its first verse goes like this:

“Come to the song, Come to the dance
Bring all you are, Bring all you’ll be
Come with your voice, Come with your voice
Come and journey with me…”

This weekend, consider these words as “permission giving”. Don’t be shy! Sing out! I promise you, you will leave with a song in your heart!
