Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 9 and join us for the annual Lenten Soup Supper. The evening will begin in church at 6:30 pm with Stations of the Cross, led by junior high students from St. Mary’s School. Immediately afterward at 7:00 pm in Howley Hall (gym) we’ll share a simple supper prepared by parishioners under Phil Micciche’s guidance. Students, from our parish school as well as teens from the WAV and EDGE youth ministry programs, will do the set up and service. Members of the Peace and Justice Council will manage the clean up. Journey of Decision
Be sure to join us for Journey of Decision 2010. The program will take place on Thursday, March 25th at 7:00 p.m. In our third year, Journey of Decision is a powerful way to experience the Stations of the Cross. Meet the people Jesus encountered along the Way of the Cross; including, Pilate, Herod, Veronica and Mary (portrayed by members of St. Mary's parish and school). What did they experience? How were they changed as a result of this encounter? You will hear from each of them directly, understand what it was like to be in their shoes, and reflect on the challenges each of us faces along our own Way. The program will begin at 7:00 and run until 8:15 p.m. All are welcome! Don't miss the opportunity to ask yourself the question, "What would I have done had I been in the crowd that day?" For more information, please contact Heidi Grassman.

Songs of Hope Concert at St. Mary’s School in Los Gatos
On March 26, 2010 the St. Mary’s School 7th grade class will be putting on a concert featuring Brad Wolfe and the Moon. This concert is raising money for the Sunbeam Foundation, whose purpose is to identify and fund cutting-edge research aimed at finding a cure for childhood and adolescent bone cancers. The students selected this outreach to support their classmate, Jensen Barrett, who is currently under treatment for Synovial Sarcoma. The concert, which will run from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m., is being held at St. Mary’s School in Howley Hall (the gym). A student presentation on childhood bone-sarcoma cancer and a raffle will also be part of the evening. St. Mary’s School is located at 30 Lyndon Avenue, in downtown Los Gatos. Please come and help us find a cure for cancer! Tickets are $5. You can order tickets via the St. Mary's School website, Sunbeam Foundation - News & Events , or by contacting Carrie Kaufmann.

BISHOP’S MESSAGE CONCERNING H1N1 FLU
The Santa Clara County Public Health Department has informed our diocese of an increase in the transmission of the H1N1 flu virus throughout the County. In response to the request by the Office of Public Health and in order to assist our parishioners in limiting the spread of the swine flu and to do everything possible to safeguard the health of our local community, our bishop Patrick McGrath is asking all our parishes, missions, schools, and religious communities to implement immediately the following temporary adaptations to the liturgy, until further notice:
When appropriate, we will return to our normative liturgical practices, which highly value full participation in the Eucharist through the sharing of the cup and generous signs of hospitality, reconciliation, and unity.
- Ministers, including clergy and ministers of hospitality, are asked not to shake hands when they greet parishioners. Also, if the assembly is invited to greet each other at the beginning of the liturgy or to gather after Mass, the same precautions should be taken.
- The faithful should be encouraged to refrain from holding hands during the recitation or singing of the Lord's Prayer.
- The faithful should be encouraged to share the Sign of Peace in ways other than shaking hands or touching. A reverent bow to each other might be suggested.
- All who distribute Holy Communion, both clergy and extraordinary ministers, as well as those who minister to the sick and homebound, are to wash their hands with an alcohol-based anti-bacterial solution before and after they administer the Sacrament.
- Holy Communion is to be distributed only under the species of the consecrated bread.
- Holy Communion should be distributed only into the hands of communicants and not on the tongue.
